Preventing Water Tank Contamination on Portable Pumps

Cross-contamination is the number-one failure of wrap-around foam systems. Here's why it happens and how discharge-side injection eliminates it.

Portable pump drafting from a rural water source

Wrap-around foam systems inject concentrate on the intake side of the pump. If a check valve fails, if pressures equalize wrong, or if the pump is shut down under load, that concentrate can migrate backwards into the water tank — leaving you with a tank of foam solution the next time you need clean water for overhaul.

Discharge-side manifolds, like the Armour Fire Solutions Solid Foam Stick Manifold, sidestep the problem entirely. Foam is introduced downstream of the pump, at the manifold itself. There is no plumbing path back to the tank.

The result: clean water stays clean, and foam is available on demand at any discharge you choose.
